Instructions

Analyze a tank with the geometry to the right, except the outflow is over  0<y<0.002m (2 mm).  leaking tank layout.png

Assume the tank is filled with gasoline (density: 750 kg/m3; viscosity: 0.0007 Pa s), and it leaks through a 2mm opening.  Determine the volume of gasoline in the tank as a function of time.

You should start with a baseline simulation available here.

Review how this simulation is set up on this page.

Adjust the simulation to get it to run.  Here are some things you will need to do:

  • Change the mesh boundary conditions as indicated in the video.
  • Adjust the properties of the fluid
  • Include auto remeshing.
  • Include consistent initialization of the auto remeshing.
  • Adjust the position of the point that controls the length of the outflow edge

If you get an error about reaching a singularity, then you should check to be sure you have specified boundary conditions for the mesh on all the boundaries.
